The Town of Poughkeepsie Republicans do hereby subscribe and adhere to the following principles of sound government for our community:

• The proper role of government is to provide for our people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations; that the best government is that which governs least and is closest to the people.

• Those services that must be provided by the government should be timely, effective and efficient. This should be accomplished through the prudent management of resources.

• Government officials and their employees are servants of their constituents and policy-making decisions should be made with the constituents’ best interest in mind.

• A well planned, balanced program for industrial, commercial, and residential development is necessary. The development must be balanced and in harmony with social, cultural, recreational, and conservation needs of the community.

• Leadership by example is required in order to encourage personal and civic responsibility to our youth and residents.

• An inclusive atmosphere where unique viewpoints are welcomed and considered during civil discourse must be maintained.

Republican ideals lead to sustainability, both economic and environmental, and will provide the set of conditions where all can succeed in their endeavors. As your friends, neighbors, members of community organizations, clubs, and volunteer associations, we are determined to maintain the high quality of life that brought us to Poughkeepsie and that keeps us here.
